Dropping a bottle feed

Hi - I'm new to Mumsnet today to apologies of this has been done to death...

My son is now 3 months old and exclusively bottle fed.

He goes through the night without a feed (last feed at 10.00pm, first morning feed at 6.00am) with 5 feeds of 180ml (approx 7 oz) each day.

My question is whether dropping to 4 feeds during the day (of around 210 -240mls) is a sensible thing to do yet or am I rushing things?

Any ideas/comments?

Why would you want to drop a feed? 5 feeds a day is pretty standard I think. DS was on 5 feeds (with no feeding at night from 10 weeks - I was very lucky!) until well into weaning.

If your DS is happy on 5 feeds and with those amounts, I wouldn't want to change it.

Welcome to Mumsnet!

I assume you are wanting to drop the dream feed? I dropped the dream feed by 12 weeks (although went through patches of reintroducing it during growth spurts/weaning) - if it is the way you want to go, then drop an oz from the feed every few days unless your DS starts to wake in the night. At the same time, perhaps you could encourage him to have an extra oz of milk during the day feeds. Just be aware that they will have days where they simply need more food and personally, I would rather feed at 10pm than be woken in the night!!

We have dropped the night feed which was a mistake. My son started waking up much earlier and he refuses to take the night feed now that we try to reintroduce it. I wish we never dropped it.
