Moving on from puree

My DS is 6 months and has been having puree for a couple of weeks. I have tried to give him mashed food instead of totally pureed but it just sits in the back of his throat til he can't breathe and then he sicks it back up. Any advice? Have tried to give him sticks of food so he can control how he eats but he is like a hoover and tries to swallow everything!

Sounds exactly like my ds- he's also 6mo and started on purees about 2 weeks ago. I don't know if this is the best approach (its all new to me) but atm I'm still giving him purees but gradually making them thicker/lumpier. Have also been trying some finger foods- he loves having a slice of apple to suck on. I don't think there's any hurry with weaning- you kind of just have to go with the flow imo.
