Miso soup for babies

I saw a Mum in cafe yesterday giving her son what looked like miso soup. I felt it would be rude to ask her if she was using miso soup, just because the family looked japanese.
Has anyone heard of this? know of the receipe?
My son refuses juice and water
I love miso soup so I thought my boy might too.

check salt levels - is usu very salty ime
how old is ds?
keep persisting with the water - leave the beaker in his reach at every meal and eventually he will get the hang of it

He's only 10-months but quite persistent at not wanting anything other than milk - unless its to play with of course.
I was thinking it is too salty but thought maybe there is a special baby friendly version?

not afaik

do you make your own from scratch? you could substitute the dashi with low-salt stock

CMOTdibbler · 09/03/2010 09:03

My DS really likes green tea - might be worth a punt. You might be able to find a low salt miso somewhere though.

Do you drink water yourself ? Sharing a drink often encourages, as does using a straw

But if he is happy with milk then just give him that?? It is mostly water anyway.

Or do you mean that you bf and want him to have an extra drink from a cup?

Agree with Mrs B...keep offereing the water and eventually he will have it. My youngest wasnt into it at first but does drink water now, though still loves his milk!

Long term do you want to set yourself up for the logistical nightmare that would mean giving him miso soup with every meal???

Yes a straw really helped my DD get the idea, though the first time she sucked she got a bit of a shock.

She also liked cooled fennel tea. CMOT doesn't green tea have caffeine though?

Oh and I also think Miso soup would be too salty for babies
