Ok so just started weaning my 6 month old In last two weeks and she HATES purée's of anything, she will quite happily munch on chunks of veg is this ok? Obviously it's all well cooked! My ds was never like this he loves purée'd food! She would much rather feed herself and suck on it with our help!

look up baby led weaning, don't bother with purees, waste of time imo

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 01/03/2010 17:56

dont bother with purees then
waste of tome anyway

look up baby led weaning

SoupDragon · 01/03/2010 17:57

Of course it's OK.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 01/03/2010 17:57

if she's happy eating cooked bits of veg, then go with it! much easier than purees and will be easier in the long run moving onto different foods.

wish I hadn't bothered with purees for DS.. he won't even eat veg now.

ruddynorah · 01/03/2010 17:58

yes it's ok

see

Ok thankyou cos thought babies just liked purée's but she doesn't she likes being able to do it herself and won't eat veg purée'd but she will if it's in chunks! I'm sure I'm gonna get moaned at by my health visitor but it's either this way or no way! Tonight she had carrot chunks broccoli cauliflower and potato, what else can she have? Obv any kinda veg well cooked but what about fruit cos she has no teeth yet! This is new to me cos ds loved purée's so wasn't prepared for this!!

From 6 months they can eat what you eat. Obviously no honey, nuts, added salt etc but there's nothing they can't have within reason.

DD didn't have teeth until over 1. It doesn't matter, their gums are pretty hard!

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 01/03/2010 18:17

doesn't matter about teeth
they cam have whateevr you eat

but not honey or nuts yet
thats all

go for it, just give her what you eat, she'll love it amd its easy

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2010 18:18

Obviously with no teeth things like an apple are a bit out of reach but I meant in terms of meals. DD loved things like lasagne and cottage pie, roast dinners etc right from the off and the lack of teeth was never a problem. Anything too hard she just gummed to a soggy mess.

gorge2003 · 01/03/2010 18:19

Is bread ok? She had a suck on a little bit yesterday and loved it, would much rather give her stuff she likes rather than forcing her to have stuff she hates! God I sound like a novice but just assumed she would like it like ds did!

Bread is fine! Some bread is quite salty though, just something to watch.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 01/03/2010 19:08

any kind of bread is fine, just watch the salt

soft fruit should be ok, small pieces of banana or manga maybe?

well cooked meat, chunks of cheese, pasta twists are good.

gorge2003 · 01/03/2010 19:18

Thanks everyone! Will just give her allsorts as long as not much salt in it! Had never heard of BLW until now!
