I have an 8Mo who is starting nursery soon.

The nursery I visited said they offer weetabix or rice crispies for breakfast.
I had never actually checked but thought these had "lots of sugar".

Now I checked the weetabix say
Per 100g:
Carbohydrate 68.4g
(of which sugars) 4.4g

I recently bought aptimil multigrain cereals and they say:
Per 100g
Carbohydrate 62.2g
(of which sugars)39g
Contains only naturally occuring sugars.

39g sounds awfully high, doesnt it? Does the fact that it is natural sugar make it ok?

Whihc woud you feed your baby??

I am so confused.

From weaning til about 18m or so I gave mine either Weetbix or ReadyBrek

Think they are both safe bets

Most other cereals are rather sugar and salt laden, I believe

weetabix is fairly low salt/sugar and I gave them from 6 months to dd and ds. I also used ready brek which has no added salt/sugar. Rice krispies have 10g of sugar per 100g but tbh I would be more bothered by a cereals salt level than the sugar content.

rice krispies - 1.125g salt per 100g
weetabix - 0.65g per 100g
ready brek -

Not just the sugar you need to watch out for, sadly. Have a look at this, which I found really useful: www.which.co.uk/advice/choosing-a-healthy-breakfast-cereal/the-healthiest-breakfast-cereals/i ndex.jsp

Weetabix comes out as one of the best for sugar content, but Rice Krispies are high on salt. FWIW, we're a Weetabix or Readybrek household too.

yes good point about the salt.

thanks for putting my mind at rest, the key worker said they could bring in some porridge for her but I'd rather she had the same as the others,
