BLW&constipation

Me again!!

DD is 6mo and BLW for the last month.

Over the last couple of days she has been straining ++ nappies defo not as 'loose' (sorry if TMI)

She has been getting lots of fruit- tried to increas on pear/plum/berry consumption.

She doesn' t really drink water (now fully ff), but starting her with the tommee tippee cup and trying to give some in a bottle.

Any other suggestions? I remember reading a thread suggesting stewed apricots. I thought of stewed prunes too?

Anyone out there??

Constipation is DD' s btw...not mine in case people were concerned

We have the opposite concern, since starting DD has had more poos, and looser
I was going to say offer water with every meal, I have read somewhere that helps with bloackages. Perhaps my little one is drinking too much

I also read that bananas can bung them up? It hasn't seemed to affect dd that way, but I have read it a lot, so some are obviously affected in that way.

have you switched formula? soome of the 'follow ons' with extra iron can bung them up

HerMomminess · 07/02/2010 11:54

Cheers ladies. Haven' t switched formula as I thought it is a marketing ploy and heard it constipation.

Also-she had quite a lot of banana...I have been avoiding it the last couple of days as I had read the same.

I am really struggling to get her to take water. Trying Tommee Tippee cup or in bottle but hardly an ounce at a time.

Mashed up some stewed prunes this morning and mixed it with yoghurt.

Poor thing: straining and produces only a little bit!

Not nice poor love. Have you tried drinking at the same time. My dd seems to like sipping when we sip, but she is a guzzler with her water so haven't had to try. But they love to copy, worth a go? I am sure you have probably tried it.

HV said give some orange juice diluted in water if DS had constipation, have tried and it does work, but if you're struggling with water it might be a little difficult. There are products available from pharmacy for this although they are really only for short term and can be a little unpleasant shall we say...

Spoke to a friend who lives in sunnier climes and recently had prem twins. She was advised by paediatrician to give...brown sugar!! She adds half a teaspoon to their bottles of formula now and again and swears by it.

No- I haven' t tried it. How weird!

Problem at mo is more projectile vomiting...must' ve picked up a bug somewhere so no weaning at the mo

I had same problem and I found that giving very watered down apple juice from a normal cup helps alleviate the problem. Banana definitely bungs by DD2 up. Have you tried a Doidy cup - both my DDs have drunk from those now problems. Hope the projectile vomiting has improved.

Vomiting stopped...followed by diarrhoea. So constipation is not an issue anymore.

SHe is playing catch up with sleep & milk consumption. Not interested in food in the slightest which is hardly suprising. But she' s going to nursery in a week' s time. And we were making such good progress
