Can't get 7m to drink water!

7m DD is very reluctant to drink water, or even diluted juice. I have tried from cup with free-flow spout, spout with valve and just from a little cup, but it just goes all down her and she gets upset whenever I try. She will hold the spouted cup but won't go near her mouth with it.

She's constipated and was prescribed lactulose today, and I was also told to push the water/juice, as obviously it'll be making it worse if she's not getting water.

Any ideas on how to get her to drink? She's breast-fed btw.

Thanks

DD wouldn't drink water at this age, I kept up the BF just so I knew she was getting liquid.

In the end I managed water on a spoon or open/normal cup, with a straw at first...she never liked the spout things.

Also, I stewed apricots (you can use dried) and made them fairly watery and she took that off a spoon which helped the thirst and made her poos nice and normal again.

Even now, dried apricots relieve her whenever she is constipated.

I would think that any form of stewed fruit would help. DD ate lots of apple and pear when she was first weaned which had a high water content.

My dd wouldn't drink out of anything with a lid/spout or teat on it but was quite happy to sip from my cup so I just offer her sips from an open beaker now and she is doing really well with it.

Cheers. I have tried an open cup, with very limited/no success most days.....will try the apricots. She's been having a lot of fruit but the poor thing is still straining like mad and getting very upset

it took me about 3 months of trying water before ff ds would take any!
the tommee tippee cheap beakers with the flippy spout were the best - the ones with the valves require huge amounts of sucking to get anything out! (i tried and failed!!)
if she really won't drink anything other than boobs i'd go with the very watery fruit puree - fibre and fluids should help in the end. or maybe weetabix? that gets ds moving!

Thanks mrsflux - I have that Tommee Tippee cup, still hates it!

Resorted this morning to feeding a bit of water from a weaning spoon , DD still in a lot of distress with the pooing, will try the watery puree as well. I hope the lactulose kicks in soon...

My DS is 7 months old and has been constipated a couple of times since we started weaning. Water really helps so stick with it, also there is a prune-based breakfast puree on the market (don't know if I can mention the name) for babies 7 months +, and this worked a treat after a couple of servings.

Thanks for the prune puree tip, will look for that - who makes it?
