I was a little nervous about starting, but we just started with a first try of banana sticks, a few blackberries and some fig quarters. DD loved it! It was hilariously fun and messy, and DD and I will be off to the shops shortly to stock up on things like broccoli, carrots, hummous and the makings for meatballs.

No doubt you will see me back on here when we have hiccups along the way, but thanks everyone for all the ideas for food and the encouragement to try this. To anyone hesitating as I was - give it a go, just for the fun factor. It gave DD a great new way to play.

Btw, sorry if the spacing here is odd, DD likes to have a go at typing and I think the settings have changed somehow.

I also keep sneaking the full fat milk onto my own cereal...it's just so nice...

Oh wait, what's that in the mirror, a double decker bus? No, my enormous arse

I have to get one of those placemats. I think it might make white food like rice and porridge easier to see and eat IYSWIM. What do you think?

We had roast chicken and vegetables tonight. Wow! Not sure exactly how much DD ate, but it is definitely increasing.

She LOVES roast jerusalem artichoke. When I think about it, it is a perfect weaning food- naturally squashy, and tasty as well.

Great thread.

I too second those placemats. We had one for DD and it was fab for taking out to resturants as not all highchairs have trays. We had many comments on it and one resturant owner wanted to get some to go with his high chairs

Def a BLW advocat here.. DD is 18mths old and im so glad we weaned her this way.
She has a fantastic appetite and eats most things put in front of her. She LOVES currys, chilli's - anything spicy. Dont shy away from letting them try strong flavoured foods. ( although maybe not a vindaloo at 6mths )

She is very well behaved at resturants and complelty amazed the staff at a chinese resturant last week by tucking into crispy seaweed, noodles, Aromatic duck etc.

We are due number 2 in May and cant wait to start BLW again at 6mths with this one
