How can I get my DS to eat more as he's obviously hungry?

Further to my previous message earlier this month, my DS2 (nearly 7.5mths) is still drinking milk at such a rate I can now barely keep up - I'm having to prepare 2 bottles per feed now as the 9oz maximum is no longer enough & he's waking through the night so he's clearly hungry but I just can't get him to eat any more solid food.

I had intended to BLW and he's relatively happy to sit & play with food taking the odd suck/ bite but minimal eating. Once or twice I've thought wow he's cracked it -lunch a few weeks ago he ate a whole avocado & another time I tried him on one of those Ella's kitchen pouches & he sucked it empty within about 30 seconds, but these were very much isolated incidences he has yet to repeat!

I BLW'd DS1 & he was so easy & 'by the book' but DS2 just seems to get frustrated & bored and more interested in when his next milk feed is coming.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Could he be bored with the process of eating, because it's too slow for him so he's not seeing the point of it when he can get an 'instant' milk fix?

Could you try a plate of finger foods for him to feed himself while you sit beside him and spoonfeed some puree at the same time? Just as a stopgap til he's got the hang of feeding himself enough.

i'd second the finger food + puree option.

ds is 10m and likes to do it himself sometimes. this is not an option on work days/ when out etc due to time/ mess etc. i give him something to hold and shovel in the food in between him doing it himself.

maybe try giving a little less milk before meals so he is hungry enough to eat a good amount. i know if ds had had a bottle close to meal times he just wouldn't bother with the food.
