7.5 months: what now?

Ds is 7.5 months. Started weaning at 6 months and he moved quickly up to 3 decent sized meals each day. He's now eating slightly mashed versions of whatever we ate the night before, plus bits and pieces of finger food at each meal. He's on 4 milk feeds each day (still breast-fed) and drinks some water with lunch and dinner. He still drinks loads of milk at his early morning feed and last evening feed, but has been drinking less at the two middle feeds. At a bit of a loose end now and not really sure where to go from here. Should I aim to get him onto 3 decent milk feeds a day (going back to work in a couple of weeks, so this would work much better for me), or keep going with the 4 feeds. Should I be offering him more water during the day, or will this fill him up and put him off milk feeds? And should I be offering him small snacks during the day, or will this also put him off his milk feed? I know he has to have around 600ml of milk each day, but finding it impossible to judge as he is breast-fed!
