DD2 is mix fed and only BF for 5 min and takes 4oz feed when I offer formula. She is 5 mths and on 50th centile. I am already worried that she couldn't possibly handle solids and milk. I am consious of the fact that milk is most important at 6 months so what if they only just take enough now to keep on 50th centile; does it mean they will take longer to take a significant amount of solids or worse drop milk feeds too soon?

Difficult to predict what will happen for any one baby I suspect, but DS was also never that hungry at 5m. He was FF but never finished a whole bottle. When we started weaning (at 6m) he wasn't that interested, would never eat puree or anything from a spoon so we did BLW and just gave him finger food for the first 2 months. It was good fun and less stressful than trying to force him to eat more, and he still drank the same amount of milk.

Then when he was about 8m his appetite seemed to really increase and he started letting us spoon feed him. So now at 10m he eats loads - 3 meals a day (mix of finger food and stodge like pasta, rice, porridge etc) and 4 bottles. It's weird as before he never seemed that hungry. He's still only on the 2nd centile for weight but he's definitely eating enough!

HTH - you never know what will happen but try to enjoy it. It's fun watching them play with food at first, and then get excited about it as they start to eat more.
