BLW and nursery

Wondered if anyone could reassure/help. DD is BLWed and started nursery after Xmas. She is 9 and a half months and goes to nursery two and a half days a wk - the rest of the time she is with me. She is breastfed on demand.

Sent her to nursery with expressed milk but she does not drink it and the nursery workers say she rarely attempts to eat anything they offer her (they offer lunch and tea). When she is at home she eats better but I would not say she has got the hang of solids yet.

Feel worried that the nursery workers keep commenting about her non-eating.....she is otherwise fine and has a big milk feed when I get her home. Should I be concerned??

How specific have you been with them about her eating habits and BLW? My DS started at nursery at about the same age and I found (through a procedure of trial and error and misunderstanding) that I had to explain exactly where he was at in terms of eating, i.e. "he will pick up food with his hands, he doesn't need it cutting up small, he doesn't eat with cutlery yet but he also doesn't get spoonfed at home and so might find it confusing if you try" etc etc. He was also quite hit and miss at first, due to the settling in process I think, although he was happy to take EBM from anyone.

I gave up trying to get nursery to understand BLW! He started going at 6 months when I had just started but they insisted on giving him mush, gave them the Gill Rapley book and everything, in return they offered me their copy of Annabel Karmel . They are pleasantly surprised with how he manages "finger foods". I don't stress to be honest but then I'm not a BLW purist and give him yoghurt and ready brek from a spoon.
