That basically. Yes PFB, yes paranoid mum . She can do it for a few seconds and the other day did it for about 10 or 15 secs. Do all you experianced people think she will be ready to start weaning at at 6 months??
Am sorry for the paranoia!!
Thankyou

fear not! 20 weeks is early for sitting (in my experience!)
none of mine sat up on their own before about 6 months

Chill. 6 months is when they generally start doing it. And they all do it at different times - like everything else ( you will find this out soon enough). Just enjoy your baby and let her be herself without putting pressure on you or her for her to fit some ideal timeline.

gorionine · 02/01/2010 21:03

I think 20 weeks is still early to sit up unaided.

For my first two DCs, the guideline was 4 months old to wean. Obviously they could not sit upright unaided, I remember feedind them in their car seat, maybe you can try something similar with your DC if still not too strong to sit on her own?

Heated · 02/01/2010 21:05

Don't think mine did it til later, 7.5 and 8.5 months. Made no difference to weaning.

GingerbreadFolk · 02/01/2010 21:06

It's a wee bit early for sitting unaided. Fret not.

The guidelines are around 6 months when showing signs like sitting unaided. Some babies will be ready a little earlier, some a little later. Be led by that and not the calendar.

Although dd was sitting unaided at 24 weeks, she was 28 weeks before she had fully lost the tongue thrust reflex and developed a useful pincer grasp so that was when she started solids.

Thankyou, just wanted to say was not trying to push her along or hurry things but was just a bit worried about the "sitting up unaided" before weaning thing. Also, sorry dumb question, do you change milk if ff at 24 weeks or 6 calander months?? Thanks again!

You don't need to change the milk at all, you just carry on with whatever you were using but can use cow's milk for cooking and cereals.

thisisyesterday · 02/01/2010 21:11

no need to change milk at all. in fact, follow on contains more iron which can consipate babies. best to stick with what she's on at the moment

againandagain · 02/01/2010 21:21

Okay. So Aptimill first milk is fine untill cows milk at around what age? I love it when things are simpler than you first thought .
Thankyou

Cow's milk as a drink from 12 months.

Really no point to follow on milk, tis a gimmick and a way for them to get around advertising laws. Babies can't absorb the amount of iron in them anyway and iron's better provided in food that won't make your baby constipated.

PotPourri · 02/01/2010 21:25

Normal first milk til around 6 months for everything, but can then cook with cows milk from around 6 months - still give formula bottles. Can then move to cows milk completely (including bottles) from about 1 year. It's not set in stone, and some people hold off longer, or start a bit earlier.

GingerbreadFolk · 02/01/2010 21:26

It's exciting isn't it, doing it the first time round? I loved introducing dd to food. Enjoy it, food's a pleasure to share with your child.

againandagain · 02/01/2010 21:26

Thanks again!

Yes Gingerbread our family is really "foody" and my parents own a couple of boutique style cafes and restaurants so we are really looking forward to it. Am just trying to get things organised in my head!

My dd1 didn't sit till 8 months. If propped up she simply slid down till she could roll and start commando crawling - she did that from very early on and found moving to things of far more interest than balancing. I started weaning at 4 months (nearly 12 years ago) with her in car seat or bouncy chair.

tink2010 · 04/01/2010 09:53

dont worry my dd1 didnt sit unaided till 8.5 mnths she rolled everywhere instead
dd2 was 7.5 mnths

ladylush · 04/01/2010 11:16

dd is 25 weeks and still not sitting (mind you, she was 10 weeks prem). I prop her in her play nest with a cushion for support and feed her that way. She has a bouncy chair but it reclines a bit too much for feeding. Used to have a bumbo with ds and that was good for feeding
