We're due to start in a couple of weeks and I'm just wondering what went down well?

I gave DS whole 'trees' of steamed brocolli that he could hold and he loved them and shoved them in mouth and sucked furiously! He still does that now!! (he's 19months). Tried to give him things that were soft but didn't mush completely in his surprisingly strong grip! Good luck!

leftorright · 02/01/2010 11:39

ps, don't mean the whole brocolli thing, just the little 'trees'!!

drinkyourmilk · 02/01/2010 11:42

it was pasta in a tomato & mascapone sauce, with broccoli and peas.

Everything was firmly sucked then thrown down when the sauce was gone. She feels pretty much the same today, sauce first, then chewing .

First meal was asparagus spears, but in the first few months it was more playing than eating to be honest.

TheWicketKeeperIsDown · 02/01/2010 19:43

Sticks of steamed carrot. She shoved them in her mouth with great gusto, bit them, then went nuts when the food stayed in her mouth. She's a big carrot fan now, though!

First food was rice cakes, first meal was a roast dinner! He was weaned at Christmas last year so we made his first meal Christmas dinner - he loved it .

Pittas worked really well for us and roasted veg. Rice cakes with various toppings and toast soldiers.

Just keep experimenting - it's great fun!

Steamed carrots and soft pear. Both went down very well.

GingerbreadFolk · 02/01/2010 19:48

Roast dinner!

bluebump · 02/01/2010 19:48

A piece of naan bread

cyteen · 02/01/2010 19:58

My banana - he grabbed it out of my hand as I was eating. It's a trend that's continued ever since

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 03/01/2010 06:44

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'm well aware that he may just play for a couple of months but I want to try and keep it as fun and stress free as I can.

at the thought of leftorright's baby sucking on a whole broccoli!

I have no idea. I was at a jewish dinner party and there was this pancakey thing with wierd stewed fruits. That was my dd's first meal at 6months 5 days.

I think the idea is you don't plan, - just get on with it!

foxytocin · 03/01/2010 06:58
