7mo suddenly screaming w/ solids

He gets very very upset and screams and cries until I take him out of his chair. I just don't know what to do.

This is new we've been weaning for about 2 months and all's been going well. His reaction is the same no matter what the type of food, incl food he's had before...

He's also off his milk a bit, though not as much as solids.

This has been happening for about a week. Previously he loved his food and ate every bit, and more.

He's had a very slight runny nose, but is otherwise fine. He's had a bad cold before but wasn't this upset with solids that time...

Any ideas anyone, we're at our wits end... worrying he'll turn into a faddy eater.

Mouth ulcers, tonsillitis, hand feet and mouths, any blistery diseases...?
It is the only things that used to get my DD off her food, because it hurts a lot.
Check with a torch if you can see any redness or blisters in gums, mouth and throat, if so go to your GP. (they don't necessarily have a fever, but if it is tonsillitis it will get worse)
plain crakers and buiscuits, soft bread, plain yogurt (not to acidic) and milk is usually the only things to go down, may be a bit of banana
good luck

My ds1 went off food completely when he was 7 months. I put it down to teething. He was dribbling lots, rough cheeks, nappy rash, runny nose.
In the end, all he'd eat was baby jars. Cold. Yuk! He soon came out of it, but it is a worry isn't it.
If he's still having milk, I wouldn't be overly concerned as that's where he'll get most of his nourishment. If he goes right off his milk, I'd speak to the gp.

Don't worry at all about faddy eating at this point. Babies go off their food and on again all the time, it's totally normal, especially when they're poorly and especially when they're so young. It could easily be related to the runny nose.

The point is, you need to trust him: he is not going to starve himself, when he's ready to start eating again he will. It won't help if you are anxious as that will just make him anxious too!

My DD is nearly 5 y.o. now, her appetite has always been good, but variable. There are always days when you think, "Surely she should eat more than that?" but then there are other days when she just doesn't stop eating!

Trust him - his body knows what it's doing ...

I have a 7month old dd who has also started screaming at each meal! she was getting on pretty well with weaning up until the weekend and now refuses everything apart from fruit and yoghurt!

I'm thinking it may have something to do with teething, she too has a runny nose, dribbling, red cheeks and a bit of nappy rash??

I do worry though that she may be becoming a bit of a madam and is refusing veg as she prefers the sweetness of fruit and knows I will give her it?? Is she too young to be this knowing though??

Oh I'm so happy to read this thread as I came on mumsnet to start one with exactly the same issue!!! My baby is 7 months in 3 days and the last two days has started screaming when the food comes out and she sees the spoon. I tried her with a yoghurt and she seemed fine with that but I took it away as I don't want her to like sweet things only.

She has nappy rash which seems to be getting better with thick layers of sudocrem but she is also alot more fussy these days crying more etc, maybe she is also teething?? Up to now she was eating veg mixttures, chicken and so on very well.

let's keep in contact on here and report back on how things go! always good to know youre not alone
