can a weaning baby eat butter???

hi ds2 will soon be 5 months and so weaning can begin anyway question is if i was giving him potatoe puree or carrot and sweede puree could i mix in a little unsalted butter for taste or is that just stupid? also ideas for weaning foods please as ds' was all plain and boring and i am so looking forward to the weaning and i want ds2 to be a really foody baby
oh and while im on the subject how long after starting weaning can i introduce plain yougurt or maybe a little custard with his pureed fruit?
i really should know all this but ds1 is 3.8 and i can't remember at what stage i did what

there's really no need to put butter in it, although it's not going to harm him if you do.

plain yoghurt is fine straight away, i wouldn't give custard personally as it's too sugary

um you do know that weaning should begin at 6 months, not 5 months, don't you? I wouldn't give anything before 6 months, def not butter

Weaning is supposed to start at 6 months! Was that baby brain or a typo!?

I wouldn't bother with butter in purees (although I didn't do purees at all - have you heard of baby-led weaning?)

Yoghurt is fine as soon as you're happy with dairy, which I was a 6m and I agree that custard is too sugary to start with.

You can add spices and herbs to food to make it a bit more interesting. My DS had (mild) chilli at about 7months!

Provided your baby is not overweight unsalted butter is fine, its only a dairy product and has full fat milk which is better for brain development.
