weaning too fast?

Really need some advice. Feel completely confused about weaning DD. She is 6 months now and I started her on baby rice 2 weeks ago. I am following Gina Ford as i followed her for DD when she was born and her routine worked a dream. However her advice is completely different from th health care visitor (who in the past has proved to be useless). The Health Care visitor told me now she is 6 months I can move quickly with solids and should start introducing a vegetable after her lunch feed and then breakfast a couple of days after that and get her on 3 meals a day and drop a bottle in a week!! This seems so fast to me, is this normal?

my daughter is also 6 months old, she's my second but I've forgotten everything
my hv told me
week one baby rice for one meal
week two baby rice for two meals
week three introduce a vegetable to replace one of the above meals
hv said I would know when baby wanted the 3rd meal

We are in the middle of week three - she gets her veg at lunchtime and the baby rice at teatime - these were the times that worked for me the best
And she is now sleeping for 12 hours!! I am going to keep doing this

it does seem a bit fast

I weaned dd at 6 months and just gave veg and fruit. No baby rice. It is gross. Never waited either to introduce one food at a time.

my ds is 5 1/2 months. started weening when he was 3 1/2 months. he is now on 3 meals a day and 3 5oz bottles. The health visitors told me that as long as he has roughly a pint of milk a day he is getting what he needs but this can include yogurts and meals with cheese in them.

Hi I started weaning at 22 weeks, It does seem a bit fast - I think you should do what feels right for you and your baby. I started off very slowly just reducing the bottle milk by an ounce or so a week and giving more food in its place. DS was on 8 ounces 4 times a day. He now has 8 ounces twice a day (morning and bedtime) and 4 ounces twice a day with baby food. Never used baby rice, think it is a waste of time. I mash up potato, carott, parsnip or use ready made tins.Hoping to start with a breakfast routine next week. I prefer to work week by week. I havent been given advice by HV, not much good to be honest!
