I don't think you're meant to, but I did with DC3. I didn't even notice that it contained pine nuts (thick emoticon). She used to have it at least once a week, with no problems. But I didn't allow DC4 to have pesto at this age.

CMOTdibbler · 27/11/2009 11:34

Yes. DS loves it, and a fave dish at that age was pasta with pesto and peas

VinegarTits · 27/11/2009 11:35

I would worry about the salt content of shop bought, but if it homemade then you can put less salt in it and i think it would be fine

Picante · 27/11/2009 11:39

Just don't if there is any history of nut allergies in your family... obviously!

littleducks · 27/11/2009 11:43

I did, ordinary adult one occassionally
although now checking the plum baby food 'pasta with pesto' doesnt actually have pine nuts listed as an ingrediant so prob isnt proper pesto so prob isnt recommended

frakkinaround · 27/11/2009 11:48

Personally I wouldn't with bought because of pine nuts and salt content but I did make baby pesto for an ex-charge and she loved it.

frakkinaround without asking you to reveal family recipe handed down through generations etc etc how do you make baby pesto?

whattheheck · 27/11/2009 19:28

Sorry if this is a really thick question but what's wrong with pine nuts?

Biobytes · 27/11/2009 20:42

nothing wrong with pine nuts at this age, unless you have a family history of allergies. If you do... well, I would leave them out if I were you.

frakkinaround · 27/11/2009 20:57

Tree nuts are one of the 8 food groups which are common for allergies along with shellfish, peanuts, milk, eggs and some other things I can't remember.

so personally I wouldn't but then I do have a family history of allergies and don't have children of my own so wouldn't want to feed other people's children nuts. When they're not yours it's much better to operate on a safe-rather-than-sorry principle so I stick to the baby pesto [/hypercaution]
