Using one of those Munchkin things..

Hsa anyone been using one of the munchkin feeders? If so, what age did you start? I know on the box it says 12 months... I have just put a baby biscuit in it as I'd tried giving DD little pieces of biscuit at first but she didn't seem to keen and I was a bit apprehensive she might choke/gag so thought I would just pop it in that so she could suck on the biscuit instead . DD is 7 months and been weaning from just over 5 months and she has been fine with all foods so far and some lumpy mixtures..

not sure what a munchkin thing is, but never used one . Re: choking, never leave baby alone when they are eating. Also, not sure 7 month old needs to eat biscuits really but whatever suits you?

Is a Munchkin one of those net bag doodahs? at the idea a 12mo should be using one tbh!! At 7 months she should be absolutely fine with finger foods - start with softish ones maybe if you are worried about how she will manage.

Half a banana, some roast sweet potato, steamed brocolli 'trees', pasta shapes, chip-shaped bits of cheese, fingers of toast - all ideal for gumming and learning to self feed.

Thanks for the quick replies.. and just to confirm.. I would never leave her alone when eating.. I sinmply put the biscuit in the bag as she was trying to grab it and I didn't want her popping the whole thing in her mouth and bits breaking off.. the biscuit did say from 7 months though.. just trying new things at the moment to see how she reacts.

Yes, the munchkin is the net bag thing.. will try her with some soft veg. re: the sticks of cheese.. do you just slice it really thinly? Again am just paranoid about her breaking apiece off and it getting stuck..

I bought one of those things and it was a complete waste of money IMO, never even used it.

HV told me with DS1 (now 2yrs) that it is safer to allow babies to bite things themselves rather than cut things up small for them as they will usually not bite of more than they are able to cope with.

The only things that DS1 had trouble with were rice cakes as he sucked them till they went all soggy & then would gag on them(but none of his friends ever did) and I have only just stopped cutting grapes in half - for some reason I can give him whole apples to bite from, but not grapes???
