Help.. tears folowing choke incident

DD (7 mths) had a bit of a choke on some breadstick last week which seemed to get stuck at the back of her mouth. she seemed remarkably unphased about it afterwards but I have noticed the last couple of meals that if she gets a lump in her mouth she screams . she is part puree(ish), part BLW and I think that her new teeth now mean she is getting lumps off where before everything was sucked/gummed. has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions? Really dont want food to be a bad thing as up to now she has tried everything with gusto...
any help, advice appreciated

is her throat sore, do you think she injured herself last week?

Yup, breadstick injury. Very common, both my urchins have done this. Feed sloppy soft food for a few days and it will go.

Or she might have a big tooth coming through and be sore anyway, and if she is chewing it may be hurting her.

Hi Aitch.. oh god I hadn't even thought about that..I didn't think she had hurt herself but guess its possible.. shit feel like such a bad mummy . She seems ok in herself but really don;t know now you suggest it. She has been a bit weepy generally this week but we are in the throes of teeth. Will take her to docs tomorrow to see. God I feel like such an idiot.

god, i wouldn't take her to the doc if she's poked herself in the throat with a breadstick, especially if she's also teething. you're more likely to come out with swine flu than you are some actual sore throat-curing salve.

both of mine went off their food when they were teething, but dd2 is so bad that i give her some bonjela before meals on occasion. i think it's really sore for them, tbh, despite there being no real evidence for it. even if she has scratched her throat with a breadstick, all you can do is wait for it to get better.

please don't feel like a bad mum, banish all that kind of weirdy negative stuff from your mind, you'll send yourself mad with it. she's fine, just teeth and maybe a scratch to the throat, that's all.

The quip about swineflu made me laugh and forget about beating myself with the bad mummy stick . the teeth do seem pretty bad at the moment so maybe it could just be that. she isn't off her food as such just has the screaming ad dabs if she gets a mouthful of lumpy or sticky grub. i think she thought my fishpie was closely related to devils food earlier!

Look, she's probably on a daily basis, sticking other things in her mouth which can scratch her - most toys are a lot more spikey than a bloody breadstick

Take her to the doctor and he will laugh.

Worst case scenario she has grazed her throat. There is bugger all you can do about it. Although if she drinks water, very cold water can help.

duh sorry that should have read "saved the docs amusement for another day".

You only have to worry if your child starts holding their nose to eat and trying to distract you then feeding it to a family pet (or older sibling)
