Please help me think of finger foods suitable for 7 month old picky eater.

DS2 absolutely refuses to use a spoon but will eat some finger foods which is fine by me as much nicer to be able to eat my own meal while he eats his! However I'm getting very confused about what is safe at his age (just 7 months).

He eats bread quite well. We've done bread/rice cakes spread with lots of different mushy stuff but I don't really want every meal to revolve around bread. He'll also eat egg in any form.

He doesn't like banana, eats steamed veg batons intermittently but doesn't seem to keen (I remember DS1 starting to want more exciting tastes at this point).

Any other ideas to get a more varied diet in him particularly how to incorp fruit and veg into finger food without being plain ?

Could I give him pasta twists with sauce yet ?

I've read lots of stuff but am always unsure about whether the suggestions are suitable this young.

Sorry jsut reread my title. Obviously he's not picky as he does eat several different things. DOn't think not eating banana makes him picky!! I tend to think that in comparison to my absolute glutton of DS1 who I don't think turned down anything at all til he was 2.

Pasta and sauce is great - most babies prefer largish shells or twists as they are easy to pick up.

Really, if you cook your food with minimal salt, you can share with him - you'll be amazed what can be finger food.

Roast veggies are always popular(potatoes, sweet pots, carrots, parnips, beetroot), meatballs, stir fried veg and chicken/beef (they gum it to death and suck out the juices), salmon (large flakes) - all that sort of thing.

Great thank you I will try pasta tonight. I precooked loads of lovely stuff thinking it would progress as per DS1 and using it on pasta will be more favourable to my sensibilities than keep spreading it on toast!

Do you think meatballs and gumming chicken ok at 7 months or should I just stop being a chicken myself and try it ?

Yes, meatballs and chicken def OK - my DS was happily gumming strips of steak at 6.5 months.

Malt loaf or fruit loaf is good for a snack or breakfast.

what about mashing his food and putting into a mini pitta. Even if he just suck on the pitta, he will be getting the goodness of whats inside.

try melting cheese over cauliflower and brocolli florettes

What about fish? Cold salmon? my 6.5 month old dd enjoyed roast cod tonight.

he doesn't sound at all picky, he just doesn't like spoons. just give him what you're having so long as there's no salt.
