Jam

We have been feeding our DS toast with lashings of butter, which he rather likes. But I have been holding off giving him jam as concerned about sugar, and he has a rather sweet tooth, would live on fruit and yaghurt if he had a choice.

When did you start giving jam to your little one? And are there low sugar/sugar free alternatives that you'd recommend?

I started when he was about a year. I've never seen sugar free, but then never looked......... What about peanut butter? Most babies love it and it's quite good for them. I used to do peanut butter and banana.
If he has a varied and healthy diet, I wouldn't really worry too much, IMO they need a certain amount of fatty, sugary, calorie rich foods to give them the energy they need to get around and grow.

You can get lovely fruit spreads which contain no sugar. Meridian make some lovely ones. Try health food shops. They are actually nicer than jam.
