is it to give 6.5month DS strips of meat to gnaw on? He's had chicken, went down very well, was gonna save some pork from our stir fry tonight....just can't be arsed pureeing meat (he's on a mix of purees and finger foods)

Absolutely fine to do this.

I thought they are only able to digest meat from 7months.?

CMOTdibbler · 19/05/2009 21:53

It's fine. I well remember DS gumming a slice of steak to death at that age, and enjoying it very much.

From 6 months, they can have everything except honey, whole nuts, and added salt

DS2 once fell asleep with a chunk of lamb half sticking out of his mouth - he was about 8 months.

Someone on MN mentioned their baby having pub lunch - strip of steak, couple chunky fries, and a few peas.

So when my parents took me and A (6.5mo) out to lunch, first time they'd seen him since he started solids, they were most impressed to watch him slurp on a piece of pork saltimbocca for half an hour, before throwing down this bit of white connective tissue. He still can't pick up peas, though (8.5mo)

Beef works too, but chicken seems to just fall apart and not work.

Shouldn't be long notcitrus.

DS loves peas. He ate so many at one meal that his nappy smelt of mushy peas the next morning.

Cut chicken with the grain rather than across it, it's too crumbly otherwise. Also the moister leg meat is easier for them to grab.

DS was eating steak at 6 months the night before his first tooth appeared!!
