quick lunch question - blueberries and 6 month old

Have blueberries. Have 6 month old. I'd like to combine them, but I'm worried about her choking. What should I do? Cut them? Mash them? Cook them?

I used to mash them with my finger before I gave them to my DS - he loved them !

Just in time advice from MN! Love it! Thanks, sazlocks. Tried cooking them - wasn't a totally successful experiment .

I would have cut them like grapes just in half for dd because she would manage them like that but ds would have them squished up a bit.

I squash with fork and add to A's weetabasicsbix. He's not a fan of such small finger foods yet (8mo)

And a quick report back... Squashed between fingers wasn't totally successful either - she managed to have a go at one but once she'd dropped it quickly got frustrated. I gave her a bit of the cooked stuff (which wasn't quite so liquid once it had cooled down, thank goodness) on a spoon. She was keen on it but it made me nervous because my walls aren't purple (yet)! Next time I'll try mashing them with something. Thanks all!

It's really nice if you have the cooked blueberry mush with fingers of eggy bread to dip in especially as they get a bit older. It's what we're having for tea tonight and mine are 5 and 3 and have been having it since about 8 months!

ZacharyQuack · 19/05/2009 13:11

Don't be alarmed at the black poo she'll do later.

unclefluffy · 19/05/2009 13:19

Mmmmmm... Eggy bread...

Thanks for the warning ZQ!
