Strong gag reflex

My DS nearly 7 mth started off weaning lovley & was a really good eater (have been doing mix of blw & purea) but is now struggling & seams to have a really strong gag reflex which causes him to bring back the contents of his stomach, he does this with the finger foods as well as with mash / purea, but more so with finger foods & mashed food or anything with texture.
I feel like my only option is to go backwards & purea more for a little while & then gradually introduce mashed then more texture & finger foods in order for him to not throw it all back up.
Giving him steamed veg / toast finger etc or anything finger food wise is a sure thing for him to fetch it all back including any milk in his tummy too which really concerns me that he's not getting the goodness from the food & although he isnt in pain I can tell he's getting frustrated & its makeing him not want to eat at all.
Any ideas would be welcome as its starting to get to me now as it can't be good for him & although i don't feel his health is suffering at the moment I do feel he must be missing out on important nutrients.

Hi there, instead of going backwards puree, it is probably a good idea to offer him smaller portions, so that mealtimes take a bit longer. Has your DS been a bit unwell recently? If he has, then he probaby just needs to build his confidence back up again.
