i'm starting weaning ds, but have no idea what to do really - I've given him a few tasters like 1/2 a spoon of few foods. But i'm not sure what to do next.

At what times do i start increasing these foods? He currently has 5 milk feeds:

6.30, 10.00, 1.30, 5.00, 8.30

Which of these milks feeds should I start feeding him at first and which ones would eventually be replaced by full meals?

I always let DS1 and DS2 tell me when to drop a feed, they either refused it completely, or just took a little bit.

I start solids with lunch first, so they have enough time to digest before bed, then lunch and breakfast, then finally dinner, then maybe adding a pud.

My HV with DS1 advised me to get Gina Ford weaning book, which I did, and although I didn't adhere to it time wise or even recipe wise it was full of good 'guidelines' to follow. Tricky business weaning isn't it!

Oh sorry,

Now I give 4 milk feeds, one when he first wakes (about 6.30ish)

Breakfast at 8
Milk at 9.30 ish
Lunch at 11.30 ish
milk at 3ish
Dinner at 4.30 ish
Milk at 6.30 (at bedtime)

He is now 8.5 months.

At first he would have about an ice cube of veg puree, and still need a top up feed until I increased his amounts after a couple of weeks.

my 8 month old eats three huge meals but still wants 6-7 milk feeds a day. obviously these feeds are getting much shorter though...

hi, I have a similar concern to you workingmom. Sorry to hijac your thread but hopefully any advice either of us get will be relevant. My DD is 6 months and has been weaning since 20 weeks (I know so some people are against this but it seemed the right time for her). She started off really well but has gone off the food a bit now. Although every day is slightly different, our pattern seems to be:
5 am formula (then few more hours sleep usually)
breakfast at 7.30/8
formula at 10.30
lunch at 12.30
formula at 3
tea at 4.30/5
formula/bed at 7
However, im not sure this is really working too well. She never seems to be hungry for her meals at all and so has a few mouthfuls if im lucky (other than breakfast) but has a total of between 18-22 oz milk a day and loves every ounce. She will eat fruit whether she is hungry or not but wont touch anything savoury unless she is starving which is only on the very odd occassion she hasnt wanted her bottle. Im not too bothered at the mo as I know milk is more important than food at this age but I am wondering as she gets older, should I reduce her milk so she is more hungry for the food. would it be better to reduce the mumber of bottles (stop 10.30 bottle? and spread everything else out over day, or reduce the amount in her mid morning and mid afternoon bottles???) incidently, other than the first bottle of the day, she never "asks" for a bottle and only seems to notice she is hungry for it if I show her it, so im thinking skipping a bottle entirely would be better for her as she may not notice as much as she would if I gave her a small bottle??? Have I answeredmy own question or am I completely on the wron track???
Boy I need to stop thinking so much and go with the flow..... have stopped over analysisng her sleep patterns since she is doing much better in that area....clearly I have just shifted my anal tendencies onto the next stage of my poor daughters life. I wonder what will be next......
