BLW baby eating solids and same amount of milk and getting enormous!

My 8-month old is doing well with BLW and starting to actually eat things rather than chew and spit them out. But she's still on 1000ml of formula a day (medical reason for bottle-feeding before that debate restarts!) and she's getting pretty big.

Will she just naturally start drinking less milk or do I have to start cutting it down?

Hi,

I'm noo expert at all and can only compare with my dd but she was drinking that amount at that age and eating well too (BLW also) so I wouldn't worry. She'll probably grow lengthwise soon and look less chubby. My dd was slim then and is now - strange, isn't it!? Babies are all different shapes and sizes anyway at different ages. She will start to drink less naturally so don't worry about her milk intake. Mine had around 1000ml at 8 months and has around 700ml now at nearly 11 months.

Thanks very much - that's what I wanted to hear! It's just that 600ml keeps coming up as what she should be having..I'll just let her get on with it then. She's always eaten more than it says on the formula box - a GP told me never to exceed that dose! Oh well, thought that was weird advice anyway - how do you stop them eating?! Thanks..

I'm sure she'll cut down her milk over the next few months. I remember at 8mo my dd started eating a lot and was still drinking the same milk she drank before we started weaning. But then she slowly drank less and cut down from 5 to 3 bottles, which she has now. My friend's ds is nearly 12mo and still has 4 bottles. He also is a BLW baby and eats really well. Not sure how much in each bottle, but probably has around 700ml a day too. He looks great!
