How can I get my 8.5 month old dd to eat finger foods?

Hi All, My dd is 8.5months, I try to encourage her to eat finger foods every day at her 11am snack time by giving her bits of toast or banana and putting it on her highchair tray for her to pick up and eat, but instead she plays with it, squeezes it all up and throws it on the floor! Am I doing something wrong? I usually give her finger food trainig time after a milk feed. Is this where the problem lies? How can I succeed at doing this finger food thing!!!! Please help.

Perhaps it's too close to a milk feed, perhaps make it a little longer - but not too long otherwise she might get frustrated and just want milk instead. Perhaps just try different things, not just toast or banana? Also make sure you eat it together so she can see how you eat it and enjoy it?

Honestly, I'd just give her time to get used to the idea.

my DS (now 10 months) REFUSED finger foods when he first started to wean, but loves it now and often tries to grapple the spoon off me when he's being fed NON finger foods!!

More than often, I just let him get on with it now - pasta / toast / apple (or most fruits!) / biscuits... Just invest in those bibs with arms etc. (or be prepared to do LOTS of washing!!)
