My DS (7mths) will happily have bottle in morning 7am and at night 7pm (about 15 ounces in all) and lunch (2 courses) and tea (2 courses). If i try to give him an other milk in the day he won't eat a thing . There seems to be no balance of a bit of each.

So he is not getting 20 ounces a day - should i be worried. Weight gain pretty good, been a bit off lately but he has been really ill. Think all this started when he was ill and wouldn't have anything so i tried desperately to get him to have anything and he mostly had milk.

I really wouldn't worry too much. Most of my friends have had this problem, except their kids haven't even taken 7oz morning and night so your DS is doing better than them.

Is DS having milk on his cereal and does he have milky/cheese sauces in his meals? HV said that this milk can count towards 20oz requirement.

Just keep offering him afternoon milk but don't force it. If he needs it he'll take it, if he does't then he won't. Also, does he like yoghurt? At least if he eats this he is getting the calcium and fat that he needs. If you really want him to take more formula, would he take a bit more in his morning and evening bottle to get him closer to his 20oz requirement?

My youngest did this by 10 months she'd only have a feed at night! I think she was just convinced that she was a grown up girl like her sisters and she just didn't want milk anymore. ~Actually my eldest was pretty much the same, she gave up her milk completely by 11 moths!

Thanks ladies, its a huge relief to know i'm not starving him

Lovelymama - He has a milky based pudding at both meals usually, at least one (yoghurt/custard). Not sure he would take nore at night or morning. Will give it a go though.

Cargirl - that sounds like my DS, sure know he has meals he thinks he shouldn't have a bottle.

Will stop worrying! Well i'll try
