my ds never really took to food, he didn't really start anything til about 9 months. eats maybe one little meal - ie 4 little spoonfuls once every 3-4 days. has some snacks a rice cake an oatcake a tiny bit of apple, but tiny tiny amounts.

he breastfeeds all the time, if i withhold, he still doesn't want his dinner and then just bfs all night.

if i leave him with dh for the day he still doesn't eat hardly anything.

am at my wits end making food. is this normal? very little weight gain, but very active and developing well.

any advice oor experience of this?

DD was a boob addict and right up till she was two was a food refusenik eating very little.

She grew out of it. HOWEVER, I would say you might want to consider night weaning - if he's getting loads of bm at night he's not going to want to eat.

Have you read the no-cry sleep guide, gave me a few ideas which worked with DD.

Hang in there, it is tough but you can fix this

Oh and also, don't make a fuss or try and goad him into eating. Plonk the food in front of him and ignore him. Talk about other things. When you have finished eating, take his food away without comment. Otherwise he will get the idea that refusing to eat is a good attention getter and it will get harder as he gets older (believe me, I made that mistake!)

my DD is the same, she tries everything but just a bite or two. Sometimes her appetite improves if I prepare something very different from what she's had for a while. Or make things easier to pick up/chew.

Have you checked with a doctor if there is any other reason why he wouldn't eat?

Have you tried getting your DS to eat with other kids or with you and your family. My DS only really took to eating when he was eating with others, I think he liked to copy!

tried everything in the NCSS. Been doing the PPO at every feed for about six months!

will try eating with others, its hard cos dh works nights so we are on our own and i am usually busy preparing six alternative menus

I wouldn't bother preparing so many meals. Maybe stick to one menu and have something else that doesn't need much preparation just in case. Good luck, hope it gets better.
