My last 2 kids were started off on purees but quickly progressed to what we were eating and fed themselves by around 8/9 months with finger foods.

My 3rd baby is currently 5 months and my biggest baby so far, she weighs around 19lbs now(was9lb9 at birth). Anyway she is recently showing great interest when we eat, trying to grab and mouth things.

I sat her in the high chair with a slice of melon in front of her which she picked up easily and knawed happily until she dropped it on the floor (then she cried)

Is this baby led weaning?? In the paper i read it said the blw study was carried out on 4 mnth olds but they weren't able to get anything in their mouths, obviously they all vary greatly.

basically yes, if your DD is gnawing, she probably won't chew and swallow food until around 6 months. BLW is self-feeding from the start. More info is at www.babyledweaning.com.

She was definitely getting some down tho, the evidence in the nappy.

I have read alot about blw and agree with some of the thinking altho not all.

The biggest thing for me is that all babies are ready at different stages and if they can get the food to their mouths and want it then following blw guidlines this is indicative of being ready.

My dd still breast feeds round the clock and has had very little in the way of 'solids my other 2 had alot more by this stage but i don't feel she needs much more than a little taste just now.

I am happy doing a mixture of puree and finger foods tho as personally i feel that is best for my babies. Both my older children are gr8 eaters and enjoy a wide range of foods which is what i aim for.

Thanks for link mrsj
