Confused about "cutting down" milk - please help

Hi,
I've posted this in "breast and bottle feeding" too, didn't know where was best to ask!

DD is nearly 10 months and is formula fed. She has just started crawling and I guess her appetite has increased as a result as she is now eating 3 good meals a day. She has started "asking" for snacks between meals too - a bottle is refused, yet bread, cheese, rice cakes etc are gobbled.
The advice seems to be that between 6 months and a year babies still need 18-20 oz milk a day. But then on the stroke of midnight on their first birthday, they suddenly don't seem to need it anymore
So, my question is, how much (roughly) do they need at 9 months, 10 months, 11 months etc? If I were to be guided by my daughter's demands, it would only be about 15oz today. I'm not worried about this as a one-off, and am not going to try to force milk into her, but is she not getting the nutrients she needs if this carries on long term? And I can only assume her appetite for solids will increase and for milk decrease.
Thanks, sorry or the rambling post

This could have been written by me. My DD is exactly the same. She's 9 months old and its a real struggle to get her to take the 'recommended' amount of milk each day. Sorry I cant help, but I'll watch with interest.

the reccomended amount of milk includes milk in things like cereal, yoghurts, cheese etc so she probably is getting enough!

HensMum · 06/02/2009 18:21

I agree with DanJARMouse, if she's eating yoghurt, cheese etc the she's probably getting enough. 15oz a day is pretty good going!

I think they are supposed to have about a pint of (cow's) milk a day after 1year old too. DS is 16months and has about that, if you include milk for cereal, yoghurt etc but he's always been a total milk-monster so I've never worried too much about it.

If she is eating plenty of calcium rich food, then she'll be fine. If she is drinking much less than recommended, then I'd be tempted to use formula on her cereal instead of cows milk.

Thanks for your replies
She could eat a vat of yoghurt if left to her own devices, so no worries about her dairy intake!!
Thanks

Ah, I forgot to include the milk in her breakfast and the yogurts she eats for pudding!
Thanks
