Advice needed please, worried parents!

Hello,

Can anyone advise 2 still fairly 'new' parents please?! (DS is 7 months old).

We started weaning him onto baby rice and Hipp pots (porridge) at 6 months. Everything went fine, loved his food. At about 6/half months introduced some pureed veg (some homemade carrots, mashed banana, and Hipp pots). He developed very very runny poos - leaking out of nappies etc. Even got sent home from creche one day because he did more than the 3 poos. We stopped and went back to mild foods again - baby rice, rusks, porridge. Poo returned to normal (even more like adult - proper little sausages!). Last weekend we thought to try and introduce veg again. Since then it has been a nightmare. He soils nappies up to 5 times a day, very runny, yellow and seedy, they often escape the nappy and go all up his back. Has developed a very sore bottom. We spoke to health visitor who said he may have inherited a sensitive tummy from his dad and just may take longer for his guts to adapt and develop. She advised keeping him on the bland foods for 2-3 weeks now and seeing how it goes. In himself he is as bonny and happy as ever, because he is not 'ill' as such (we have had to explain this to the creche to try and convince them not to send him home when no-one is going to catch anything from him). But it is very difficult surviving day-to-day, not knowing if we're going to get a call from creche and have to leave work early, worried for him and why this is happening and where is all this poo coming from????

Long post I know - but does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this, or experience even? Gratefully received.

Everything has gone so well the first 6 months, was just starting to think i had it all mastered and that weaning would go as smoothly as everything else! Pride before a fall eh!

thanks

i would try adding just a teeny amount of the 'new' food into the bland food, starting with once a day and building up slowly over a month or so. if you can introduce it just a teeny bit at a time then maybe it will not have such a huge effect?

it'll take a while, but slowly, slowly - we've done all of ours this way as they semed to be similar.

Useful article.

Crazy that the creche would call you to take him home....

Thanks very much for your replies.

This is an interesting article - I suspect it is something along those lines ie. malabsorption of the gut - hopefully one of those baby things that goes just as suddenly as it came.
