I need a cheap highchair - any recommendations?

I'm thinking of buying a Tripp Trapp when DD is older (at the moment I doubt it would be tall enough for her to reach our dining table). We can't get to Ikea so Antilop out of the question. We've had a look in Argos and wondered if this is any good. Does anyone have any experience of this chair or could you suggest something similiar? Space is an issue so something that folds down is preferable.

ikea antilop

no need to say anymore

FaintlyMacabre · 01/02/2009 11:02

What about this?
We have one and it is very good. Just make sure that your dining chairs are big enough -its footprint is a little large for some chairs.

sweetkitty · 01/02/2009 11:03

Is there no way you could get to Ikea, the antilop is fab

sweetkitty · 01/02/2009 11:03

I have the booster chair as well, would second they are good too

Benjy · 01/02/2009 11:06

We don't drive and we don't have an Ikea nearby so we can't get there, unfortunately.

Our dining chairs are quite deep so I'm not sure the booster seat would work, even at the heighest setting.

oops I'm sorry
didn't read op properly

But the Fisher-Price booster has a tray so it doesn't matter if it is too low at the table. When your DD is old enough to eat directly at the table then she will probably be tall enough to reach.

Still confused why not a Tripp Trapp? My DD has been in hers since she was first able to sit up at about 5 months. And she's tiny.

Don't get one of those fold up ones. DD has one of those at her GPs and it is very uncomfy, she is constantly sliding back down it.

Benjy · 01/02/2009 11:13

I wanted a chair that she would be happy to sit in while I prepare a meal, do some washing up, etc. At the moment, she has a Bumbo, which she'll sit in for 5 minutes and then want to get out. Do you think the booster seat is comfortable enough for her to be happy in for longer?

Seen one like the one in argos advertised in asda for £25, mothercare have same one for 44.95

Benjy · 01/02/2009 11:14

domesticslattern, I read that the Tripp Trapp is 58cms at heighest setting from floor to seat and our table is much higher than that. Correct me if this is wrong. I still intend to buy one but when DD has grown a bit more and would be able to comfortable reach our table.

My table is 75cm off the ground and DD was fine. If I were you I'd build your Tripp Trapp, if your baby is sitting confidently pop her in it and then decide. Bear in mind they grow fabulously fast. I did get the cushion and it was a waste of money (as mrsjammi points out) BUT if you are worried about the odd cm here or there it does boost them up a little.

domesticslattern · 01/02/2009 18:31

or get one of these

www.olivers-baby-care.co.uk/Me-Too-Clip-On-Travel-Highchair/115pol668p.asp

At least then you'll be able to use it for travelling, visiting etc.

lilQuidditchKel · 01/02/2009 18:36

IKEA one - from EBAY - that's what I did. Even cheaper than in IKEA

It's defo the best highchair I've ever used.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 01/02/2009 18:37

My local Asda had some Gracco one's on sale for £25 yesterday.

It might be worth checking their website to see if this is a national sale.

the ikea one is king here too (it actually wipes clean )

MamaHobgoblin · 01/02/2009 19:11

IKEA deliver the Antilop chair but not the tray or cushion . (A nice MNer passed me on her tray.) But you can also sometimes find the trays and cushions on ebay. Could also find the chair there, I'm sure. Or could try Freecycle or Gumtree?

Honestly, it was the best 9.99 we spent! Easy to keep clean, lightweight, neutral. And you can get them in blue and red now too!
