DD is now 27 weeks, and have been offering food since 26 weeks. She has taken to solids very well, eats a large amount of whatever is offered as well as her milk, feeds herself with a spoon, and has no problems with finger foods. Ive been offering her veg, and fruit mashed up and as finger foods, she has cheese and yogurt, porridge and has had some toast etc. When do i start to move onto protein foods like meat and fish eggs, ive read into it, but some things say 7 months and other things including my hv say after 6 months its all fair game. Am now throughly confused. Also im vegetarian, i want my dd to eat meat until she can decide for herself, but can she eat quorn/vegetarian mince falafel stuff that ive made up for myself? I know i may be being a bit pfb, but i just dont what to give her anything that will harm her, but i know she'll be wanting more than fruit or veg soon!

sorry another question. can she eat hummous yet? when she sees me with food she chases me (rolls), and sometimes ends up wrestling stuff off my plate if i try and pick her up, last thing she got hold of was a hummous pitta i was eating and ended up squirting a lot of it into her mouth, which she liked, but i was worried as hummous has salt in it. By the way, i know i sound neurotic!!

You can give her anything except whole nuts, honey and things that are high in salt (and even then a little of that in a day when everything else has no added salt is fine).

A falafel and hummous will be lovely

In terms of allergy risk, after 6 months you can give almost everything. However, beans and pulses can be hard to digest, so some children may not be ready at 6 months. Same for meat and some fruits (like citrus). All you can do is try and see how she takes it. If she doesn't like it or has some colic, then try again in a month or so.

Agree that you can try everything now but stick to doing one thing at a time for a few days so you can see any reaction - my dd has been fine with all meat/fish but not with eggs for example.
