Unused baby rice - can I use it for something else? No rude suggestions!

That's it really. Was given some when I was weaning ds but never used it. Don't want to throw it away. Can I use it as an ingredient in cooking or baking or is it just vile stuff that should given away to some other unsuspecting mum?

Wallpaper paste?

Or add it to a rice pudding

Easy peasy breakfast biscuits:
? 8 fl oz pure apple juice
? 4 oz flour
? 4 oz baby rice

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 deg F, 175 deg C.
  2. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  3. Turn the mixture out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to around 1/2 inch thickness.
  4. Cut into any shapes you choose!
  5. Bake for 20-30 mins on a greased baking sheet until golden brown.

I threw my baby rice out long before I found this but a friend made them for her ds and he loved them!

Oooh thank you pispirispis - sounds good. I was afraid I would have to go with KatyMac's first suggestion

Pispirispis - self-raising or plain flour?

Plain - You'll probably think they're a bit yuk as they're pretty tasteless but your lo might like them!

nickschick · 26/01/2009 19:12

I used to use mine to thicken up very watery purees.

AmeliaMum · 28/01/2009 13:32

Thanks for all your suggestions. have made biscuits. look foul but ds spent a good 20 minutes gumming one to death with a grin his face so some success I think!

That's great - makes all the effort worthwhile for you AmeliaMum!

I'm the mum of the DS pispirispis mentioned and it's true DS did really like them although I thought they were a bit chewy and not very tasty. Still have half a packet (why do they sell such ENORMOUS packs of baby rice?) so i might have another go!

CherryChoc · 29/01/2009 14:46

Ooh how useful to use up my free sample I got given (at an NCT nearly new sale!)

PurlyQueen · 29/01/2009 18:25

These biscuits are baking in the oven right now.

kms123 · 30/01/2009 15:49

I just made those biscuits- mine turned out a bit soggy/chewy but DS LOVED it at lunchtime.

PurlyQueen · 30/01/2009 19:20

Mine came out an unappetising colour and they taste rank to me - but DS happily gums them, so I'm happy!

pispirispis · 01/02/2009 10:14

Definitely seems there's no danger of mums nicking all the baby's biscuits in this case!
