DS1 had some changes in poo when he went to solids. Have you tried the "P" diet? Peaches, prunes, peas and pears

Do you give him water with his meals?

It tends to be lack of fluid not fibre in babies (unless you are actually feeding him chicken, chicken and chicken with extra chicken - ie a high protein, low fibre diet).

She sounds a bit moronic tbh. Do you trust her opinion.

In the short term, add some tinned apricots to his diet or some diluted prune juice (orange juice can give nappy rash).

segments of orange worked wonders for my lot.

(and FWIW, my BLW baby was really was still only having small amounts at 9m as his main food was milk - which is what the current guidelines say )

oh ffs it is bugger all to do with not eating enough veggies.

bf him more, that should do the trick!

we found that weetabix and banana always made ds1 constipated. it's far more likely that your ds has just had something like this that has bunged him up

littleducks · 22/01/2009 21:07

well at least you lot are making me feel better

If she didn't even ask about his milk feeds then it sounds as if she didn't really assess the situation before offering advice.

My (now retired) hv was lovely and suggested a small amount of apple/orange juice mixed with water if baby reluctant to drink much water as well as (of course) regular bf/ff at this age.

Some babies find a lot of high fibre stuff like weetabix and wholemeal bread etc very hard on their system.

If your ds eats small amounts of fruit and/or veg I am sure this is fine.

We find apple juice works brilliantly - the not from concentrate stuff. Orange juice gives DS a v sore bum so we have to avoid it. It is very acidic anyway so I'm surprised it gets recommended for baby's tummies...
