Baby rice is like eating cardboard!
I'd start with mush veg and mush fruit, then start to make it less mushy.

No no no! Baby Led Weaning is all you need to know! Get Gill Rapley's book on it, it's fantastic! No purees, no cajoling your baby to eat. Baby led Weaning allows baby to eat the same meals as the rest of the family. It's great.

Have to agree with scrooged here - baby rice IS horrible stuff - reminds me of wallpaper paste! I think babies enjoy experimenting with different textures and flavours and it doesn't really have either of these going for it! DS loved fruit and veg - it's obviously up to you whether you decide to go down the baby led or puree route but I don't think you need to worry too much about the baby rice tbh.
