im not sure wen to giv her food? how much? im gonna introduce each vegtable at a time, as im worried she may have allergy.

how many times a day i offer it...all very confusing.
before feeds?
after feeds?

I would do it after feeds cos milk is most important until she is 1.

AnarchyAunt · 16/01/2009 11:19

How old is she? Is there a family history of allergies?

If you are concerned about allergies its important to wait until 6m to introduce solids, as this cuts the risk of allergic reactions.

Once she is 6m you can just sit her in a highchair and start giving her bits of steamed/roasted vegetables, soft fruit, pasta, rice, toast, cheese...

Usual guidelines apply about foods to avoid for the first year.

mama2leah · 16/01/2009 11:27

she is nearly 27 weeks....
i wanted to do blw, but worry abt allergies...
yeh both our familis av allergies.

which soft frutis are best to get?

if shes awake when you're eating then give her something, if shes not then don't. milk before 'food' until she's one.
she'll gradually fall into an eating routine of her own.
most of her nuitrtion should still come from milk until shes one - food is supplimentary.
relax and try and enjoy the process x

nappyaddict · 16/01/2009 11:29

Erm I thought you had a DS

CandleQueen · 16/01/2009 11:30

My ds is 27 weeks and we've started BLW. We have eczema, asthma and nut allergies in the family so BLW means I can just cook mormally.

RobynLou · 16/01/2009 11:31

you can be just as careful about allergies with blw as with puree - you pretty much give them the same things (veg) to start with either way, just its either mushed and sppooned or cut into chip shapes, steamed and played/eaten by lo using their hands

mama2leah · 16/01/2009 11:33

lol its a dd ( sorry nappy addict), i tink i 4t ds once by mistake.... im kinda worried as i jus found out i am pregnant...and due jus before her 1st bday.

I'd take it slowly if both families have allergies.

Banana is always a good one to start with - sweet and soft. Avocado is good too. Avoid strawberries as they are a fairly common allergen.

Have you looked on the Baby Led Weaning site yet? Loads of good ideas and advice. Good luck with it

mama2leah · 16/01/2009 11:36

see i tink to much, and i keep gettin told start with vegtables, not fruit...
yeh i get confused lookin at wesbites..i tink i tink to much, and get stressed out.

if you had a ds you would not call yourself mama2leah surely !! so you are almost 12 weeks pregnant too... busy few months ahead

milk first then food, if lots of allergies you can still avoid certain foods that could provoke a reaction even with BLW

you are just offering tastes at this point anyway

CandleQueen · 16/01/2009 11:38

Avocado not a hit in this house. DS2 just chases it around the table - too ripe I think!

AnarchyAunt · 16/01/2009 11:39

You can start with vegetables or fruit, I'm not sure it matters too much really! I think people worry the baby will only eat sweet things if you start on fruit.

Lots of veg are quite sweet anyway - sweet ptoatoes, carrots, parsnips - you could try starting with them if it worries you? Just cut them into chip shapes and either steam or roast them.

nappyaddict · 16/01/2009 12:57

I thought that too Lulu but she's written ds quite a few times on different threads and thought sureley leah is a girl that's why i put the confused face.

mama2leah · 16/01/2009 16:21

i made a mistake...sorry!!
