When did you introduce protein...

... and in what order (e.g. fish, lentils, chicken etc).

I'm weaning my 6 1/2 month DS and not 100% sure what the guidelines are as I've come across some conflicting info. I'm also really nosy and want to know what other people are doing/did.

Thanks!

i started weaning with fruit and vegetables. Once my DD was established on these I introduced meat. It doesnt matter in what order I dont think....maybe chicken and fish etc before red meats.

Thanks. Am weaning DS on fruit and veg. Just really interested in what age people tend to introduce the protein.

I think our first protein with dd was turkey on Christmas Day, 6 1/2 months - since then cheese, chicken, a bit of lamb mince in a pasta sauce, and just today tuna. Not doing eggs as ds is allergic to them so want to wait with them for a bit. Oh and yoghurt and fromage frais, pretty much from day one.

I did at 6 months. Started with lentils then fish, chicken then red meat. He's been fine with it all.

Totally randomly, at 6 months, out of jars (meat - I'm veggie), without any consideration of anything sensible.

BLW but started about 10 days before 6 months. So, in a paranoid state he only got veggies till 6 months and then had whatever meat we were having from about 6 months plus one day. This however is not a rational approach.

I think ds had chicken about the 2nd week after I started weaning (at 26 weeks). He definitely had lentils that first week.

Is there a specific order you're meant to introduce things? I thought pretty much anything goes after 6 months.

giantkatestacks · 14/01/2009 18:37

we did lentils at about 6.5 months I think, then cheese, then chicken and fish and we've just had lamb and (lambs)liver at 8 months. I think it just depends on how slowly you want to take it doesnt it...we are going slowly because she seems to react to some foods - egg for example grr.

ps liver was the dds most exciting thing ever - she picked it up, tried it and then did an excited sort of dance...[weird emoticon]

Thanks everyone - just curious to see what was the MN 'norm'. I gave DS some fish this week, but all the mums I know with babies around the same age were all a bit 'oh, he's had fish already'. Nice to know others doing the same.

bookfthief I dont think there is a specific order.

As soon as they hit six months I gave them lentils and fish, then at 8mo I introduced chicken and will prob give them mince tomorrow (got some leftover spag bol).
I think the official guidelines say you can give them anything after six months apart from honey, nuts, egg etc
