DS is just over 6 mths. Have been offering finger foods for 2 weeks? He's quite happy to pick things up and shove them in his mouth but doesn't really chew and most comes straight back out. He has had absolutely no gagging- I was led to believe he would gag alot. Is this normal?

Also when do they actually start to digest food- the bits in his nappy are completely recognisable? and when do I actually have to worry about how much/if he is swallowing?

Thanks

PS am absolutely loving BLW, having never heard of it before mumsnet. And fantastic photo oppertunities!

That sounds pretty normal. Some gag more than others, so you may just have a non-gagger. Digesting food comes on gradually IME (if you do purees it comes out looking more-or-less exactly the same as when it went in, which is offputting and has given me associations with sweet potato that I'd rather not have...). I wouldn't worry about how much he's swallowing until he's closer to a year, really.
