just started weaning. ds loved yesterdays parsnip mush but gagged on 2days sweet potato mush. does gagging mean he didn't like the taste or the texture or both??? sorry, i'm really thick when it comes 2 weaning!!!!

no, gagging is a normal reaction. babies aren't used to solids so it takes a while for them to learn how to manouevre it around their mouths without choking, it's a bit of trial and error. DS still does it occasionally and he's 16 months.

also may i add that the gagging reflex is on the front of baby's tongue, not at the back like in adults. maybe you need to check how you're popping the spoon in his mouth.

Agree with above. I gave ds a weaning spoon to play with from the age of about 4 months so he could put it in and out of mouth and didn't have too much probs with gagging, not sure if doing this had any effect on how he handled being fed off spoon, I don't know anyone else that did this, but out of all my friends babies, ds was the only one that took to weaning straight away.
Might be worth a go or might confuse him now that he's started eating...........
