DS is now 7 months - what should I be giving him?

Ds has been having purees since 4 months and is now on 3 meals a day. He is now just at the 7 month mark. I'm not sure what I should be introducing him to now though. I am worried about giving him lumps because he tends to gag and I'm frightened of him choking. I know I need to get over this fear and try him on different things, so what should I be doing/giving him now?

Can I just add, that my fear is not a PFB type fear, DS is my second baby.

My DD is just 7mo too. I've been doing BLW with her, so she gets everything we eat: toast; pesto (a big fav. on pasta!); shepherd's pie; fruit of all kinds; roasted veg.; cheese (she just really enjoyed some tomato & mozzarella for lunch with bread & oil!); etc. etc. (all minus salt, of course).

Could you try him with some finger foods? Stuff like toast which starts off quite solid, but softens up as he gnaws on it.

My DD gags all the time. It's natural and ok, AFAIK. Choking is different.

If you're genuinely worried, take a first aid course. I did one before I started weaning DD, so now know how to deal with choking, should it happen. Your HV should know if there's a course near you.

Oh, and she's a greedy little carnivore too: loves loves loves gnawing on strips of meat (bits of steak, ham - and loved the Christmas goose!).

I am about at this stage too I found bread sticks and rice cakes great for when on the move, just buy adult ones and break them up as cheaper than ones aimed at babies just check salt content. Bananas are great for babies that gag too as you can slowly build up size of lumps easily.

I am interested in BLW but not sure if I can do it as DS has been having purees since 4 months.

I did offer him some lumpy food last night in a fit of braveness and, to my utter shock and surprise he managed to eat the lot with very little gagging! That one thing has made me feel lots better about attempting to carry on with lumps though.

I think I will give it a week on the lumps and then slowly introduce finger foods. Although saying that, he does like to munch on half a rusk.
