my DS is v reluctant to wean. I've been trying (gently) to feed him solids off and on since he was 17 weeks but he is really disinterested. Three times a day now I go through the ritual of making breakfast, lunch and dinner for him. He has 3 or 4 mouthfuls, enjoys it but then will not eat any more and spits it out, and then starts screaming until i BF him!
I'm a big fan of BLW and he is happy gumming toast and shredded wheat, and also plays with the spoon to feed himself, but I am concerned as he does not really eat anything. This means that he BFs about every 2-3 hours all day and all night as he's hungry!
Basically he's a milkaholic who won't drink from anything other than a breast, and has little interest in eating anything else! And i am an exhausted mummy who needs some ideas/advice please...

My DS took until about 9.5 MO to really understand that solids were to satisfy his hunger - he was a milkaholic too and would just cry at the highchair pulling at me so I would give him a BF!

Try your best to chill out about it, and just give whatever you're eating so that you're not having to go to a lot of trouble to make him 3 special meals a day. Also make sure you're giving him solids quite soon after a BF, otherwise he will be genuinely hungry and will get upset - my DS did this until about 9 months. He will "get it" soon - they all develop at different times and it seems like this can happen anywhere between 6 and 12 months. Just play with different tastes too - what foods have you tried? Are you doing BLW 100% or a mix with purees?

Which foods have you tried?

I think if he is a boobaholic you just have to go with it but perhaps there are some foods he might go for that you haven't tried.

My two love sweet potato and parsnips... any of the root veg really (they are 7.5mths old too). And baby rice made with BM or formula is always a big hit cos it just tastes like milk. Not BLW but if you want to cut out the waking every two hours then you might have to introduce some spoon feeds.

thanks for your help...
so sorry i didn't reply sooner. We have been away staying with family for xmas and the change of scene has helped!
he is now still a boobaholic but i've discovered that he is really interested in strong tasting foods and things with lumps!
So now he's eating what we're eating - some is whole (like pitta bread, carrot sticks, roast potatoes etc) and some is mashed up or pureed!
He's almost drinking formula now, but refuses baby rice or porridge unless it tastes of something else as well as milk!

I have chilled out loads too as he is sleeping a bit better and has now managed to sleep 7 hours until a BF at about 2am and then another 4 hours AND then fall back to sleep in bed with me until my 2.5 yr old wakes at 7.30am

Thanks though it's so great to have some encouragement when you really need it
