DD is 13 months old and was BLWed, although that probably isn't really relevant anymore!

I give her a spoon with relevant food stuffs but I've not tried other cutlery. There doesn't seem to be much point in giving her plastic knives and forks because they aren't actually going to be capable of pricking/cutting anything much. On the other hand it does seem a bit early to introduce proper (mini) cutlery safely...

What did you do?

aaaaaaaaggggggrrrr 'introduce'!

Let her have the plastic ones to play with. She'll start to copy you with them.

Around that age for both of mine as they'd refuse plastic. They quickly got used to it. I bought some silver ones with really rounded edges.

Thanks! Can you link by any chance TDWP? The only ones I've found so far are sharp like these.

Rarely use it myself.

I never used plastic knives and forks as they are crap!! My lo's had plastic handled metal cutlery from fairly early on - they got on better stabbing with a fork than scooping with a spoon for quite a while. I got cutlery from boots and the supermarkets

TortillaDeMaiz · 19/12/2008 00:07

My DD has some metal ones which she started using at 11 months. She asked for them and would not eat if she didn't have any fork or spoon. However, I think she started eating less because she can't handle the cutlery very well yet. I would rather wait until your LO is really interested.
