BLW - suddenly desperate for milk, is this normal?

I have been BLW my 6 mth old DS since Saturday (so very early days) and he has suddenly regained his appetite for milk - is this normal?

He started life as a very hungry baby and used to neck six or seven bottles a day up until about 20 weeks. Then he really lost interest and would take about five or six bottles but often not more than 4 or 5 ozs at a time.

Now I've started feeding him he's back up to 8 ozs and crying when he comes to the end of the bottle .

He's obviously not eating much at the moment as he's self-feeding but has this triggered his appetite? Happy to give him the milk but tbh, my biggest concern is over-feeding him now he's on solids and has rediscovered his love of milk .

Thanks for any advice.

yes normal

go with the flow

remember if he was bf you'd never know how many oz he was getting and it still wouldn't matter, iyswim

So I can't overfeed him? He's on the 75th centile already!

if he was born on or around the 75th centile then he hasn't gained, just grown

overfeeding v hard at this age if you are doing milk on demand and BLW

DO you give him milk before he has solids?

Not sure what current thinking is but that's what I did with both of mine - and as they became more efficient at eating I tailed the milk off gradually.

He started on the 25th, and then shot up - but he was two weeks early. He's pretty much tracked the 75th ever since, so don't want him to take another leap again.

Myrrhcy, yes, I do give him a milk feed but not directly before. May be half an hour or so. But then half and hour or so after eating he's starving for a bottle! I always give him water with his food too.

I remember DS doing the same thing - 6 months is a growth spurt age.

yes, totally normal. ds2 is breastfed, but when we started BLW he went absolutely crazy for it and was feeding like a newborn all over again

Thanks guys, that's good to know!

It took me totally by surprise cos he's been so uninterested in his milk for weeks.
