What can I give my 6mo for lunch when out?

My 6mo is getting on well with his vegetable purees for lunch, but when out and about, I can't heat them up (so many places won't do this for H&S - grr!!).

What can I give him for lunch?

Anything.
Bit of bread, cheese, veggies, plain youghurt.

notnowbernard · 14/12/2008 20:11

A bit of what you're having?

ilove · 14/12/2008 20:12

I used to take a banana and a ripe avocado out with us and mash them together

Will he have finger foods?

Cold purees for lunch if not - some babies will happily eat savoury cold, failing that give him fruit purees perhaps. Banana is very filling.

AccidentalMum · 14/12/2008 20:19

Take banana, mash and serve. TBH, I just used to take a butter knife and pop slivers straight into DD2's mouth.

i used to take sandwiches. or just give him what I was having

if you don't do finger foods then having something like soup/jacket potato is easily served to a baby

SamJohnsMum · 15/12/2008 12:09

Thanks! I tried the avocado and banana at home today and he didn't want any of it. Maybe I timed it wrong? He didn't seem to dislike it - he just didn't want it! He did have a milk feed after, but it wasn't a very long one. Oh well!

Could you take a flask of hot water and some food in a plastic tub and warm up the food in the water, like you'd warm up a bottle. Fisher
Price make a flask and plastic tub for this very purpose. here

My DS is only 14 weeks old, but I was given one when he was born, and the girl who gave it to me says it is the moist useful thing she has for her one year old.

She warms up those Ella's Kitchen vacuum packs in the water too. In fact, couldn't you just use any old flask and a big cup to warm up some prepacked baby food?

I'm really sorry if there are any glaring mistakes, errors, ommissions in my idea, as I said DS is only 14 weeks old, so I am speaking from someone else's experience.

2pt4WiseMen · 15/12/2008 19:27

The Ellas Kitchen baby puches are just pureed fruit and veg with no added bits and bobs.
Perfect for when you are out!

IAteTheWholeSelectionBox · 15/12/2008 19:28

Bread, ricecakes, any veg or fruit, cheese, salad, potato, whatever you have yourself, really

ChrismumMiaow · 15/12/2008 19:30

You can get specific food flasks with a big wide neck. I use one for when we're going out somewhere that I know won't be suitable for DS (although that's not many places) or somewhere that doesn't have good seating arrangements (DS makes much less mess with a tray and can eat sloppier things). I take a few warm veggies with us to supplement some cold things (rice cakes with philadelphia and some courgette sticks and brocolli is an excellent lunch (DS doesn't like salad veg apparently))

Anyway, you could quite easily put puree in them too. Some places (often kid-friendly pubs) will warm baby food if you buy their jars though.

plum baby? ellas squeezy pouches? organix pots? homemade purees room temp? (reckon rod for own back if always heated up- no reason with just veg not to give room temp imho). i also did banana avocado thing-prob got the idea from mn!! basically i would just bring your own thing then you can be SURE you will have something to give even if the food is slow to arrive/ no tables in restaurant or whatever....

Habbibu · 15/12/2008 19:31

Finger foods much easier when you're out and about, if you're happy enough with that. But at 6mo I wouldn't worry too much about lunch out - he doesn't need a set 3 meals per day, so just a milk feed will do if you're stuck.
