Finger foods

Hi there,
DD is 26 wks this sunday [pats herself on back in disbelief that she actually made it], we've been weaning for about 4 weeks ish and she doing just fab.
Purees are the best - as long as they're warm, she hates them cold and looks disgusted at me if I shove a spoonful of cold food her way!
My problem is this: I'm a bit scared and finger food. When is the best time to give it? should i start putting some down in front of her now, while we're feeding her the puree, or is it too early? and if so then whats the best first finger food?
I'm petrified of DD choking and worry that I'll give her something too small/big/hard/soft?!~#!

can anyone recommend a food to try first with her? does it matter how many teeth they have or do they just gum-chew the food?

Scared and confused

DS has never had puree and ate small amounts of finger food from 23 weeks.

So long as you never leave your baby alone with food, you can give them almost anything. DS gagged plenty, and this is normal and how they clear anything they can't deal with.

Even if you're not doing Baby Led Weaning (BLW) as we did, the BLW site has excellent ideas for finger foods, and suggestions for the easiest shapes of foods and ways to prepare things.

The general idea is, intially, chip shaped things they can hold in their fists - not so hard they can't gum them, but not so soft they break off in big chunks

Brocolli is an excellent starter as it has a built in handle and the little bits come off easily. Bread sticks and rice cakes are also good.

Good luck and try not to panic

Thanks - will have a look at the BLW website. Gonna try some bits tomo I think.
