DD will only eat bananas and beans on toast for her breakfast is this okay.

I know it sounds like a stoopid question but beans on toast and bananas is all she will eat for breakfast. I get her sainsburys own small tins of low sugar and low salt beans and she has a half a tin with a piece of toast and then a banana.

I am worried that she should be having things other than that for breakfast. She just wont eat anything other than that.

Her lunch and dinner are varied and she will eat anything I put in front of her and snacks of rasins and bananas in the day.

Is this okay, should I really try to get her to have a different breakfast every morning.

Sounds fine! Could you try making your own beans with different types?

geordieminx · 12/12/2008 11:02

Does she have milk of a morning too? If so it sounds ok to me...not an expert mind you

nancy75 · 12/12/2008 11:02

they are both quite good for you and quite filling, i would be quite hapy with that tbh

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 12/12/2008 11:02

No that's a fab breakfast. No problem with it at all.

bran · 12/12/2008 11:04

That sounds ok to me, it has carb, protein and plenty of fibre. I have the same breakfast every morning because I'm not a morning person so find it easier to be on auto-pilot for the first hour or so.

BlueCowNowIsLowingAndDCAwake · 12/12/2008 11:05

sounds great to me. It's a phase, but personally I'd enjoy it as there's no um-ing and ah-ing!

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 11:05

Yes she has a beaker of milk with it in the morning. I would love to make my own beans, does anyone have any recipes?

As you can tell DD adores bananas and always says naanaa when she wants one. We get through about 4 bunches a week as I love them too.

sorry, should have said its PROBABLY a phase, but even if it continues indefinitely, it's still a great start to the day.

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 11:06

Oh and she is nearly 13 mo BTW, so that is why I was worried re the salt content of the beans.

If you google 'homemade baked beans' there are loads of recipes. I use tana Ramseys one, but often with a mix of beans, sometimes with lentils too.

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 11:17

sounds healthy to me. I can barely get my two to eat anything

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 11:21

Thanks Primark.
noiamnot how old are your DC?
DD went through a phase of not eating much at all and would only have milk. She still has days like this now where she prefers more milk to solid food (unless it is a banana )

6 and 10!

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 11:24

It must be so hard and worrying for you. Are they fussy or just not ones to eat a lot.

OP posts:
noiamnot · 12/12/2008 11:26

first off, they both have allergies, ds1 tons of them. then, like their mum, I just don't think they like to eat in the morning.

I suppose if I came up with something they liked but it is so hard. Usually just cereal or oatmeal round here.

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 11:30

Even harder then for you then .

I don't have allergies but I hate eating in the morning, I have to force myself.

Oatmeal is great though, I would love DD to have some oatmeal or porridge but she just wont eat it.

OP posts:
noiamnot · 12/12/2008 17:22

ds1 picks at his oatmeal. He doesn't like any black bits so I have to carefully pick everything out.

Jux · 12/12/2008 19:48

Bananas are fantastically good for you. You could live on a diet of them and nothing else and you'd be OK

devoutsceptic · 12/12/2008 19:50

It's the PERFECT and IDEAL breakfast. Lol at making your own beans! Some people are never blooming satisfied!

AndaPartridgeOnADustyTv · 12/12/2008 20:37

noiamnot, my brother is like that and has for as long as I can remember, he is very fussy. It must be so frustrating for you.

Jux, really, well that makes me feel better, sometimes all DD will have is milk and bananas.

devoutsceptic, I feel a lot better now knowing that it is okay for DD to have the same breakfast day in day out. I guess I was just worrieed about her not having a balanced diet.

Just spotted this, don't want to worry you but low sugar beans usually have artificial sweeneters in - I'd be wary of a LO having them every day.
