Should I reply to this?

Just read on another forum that someone was told by their doctor to give baby rice to their baby at 3.5 months because "he was drinking so much formula". Am I right in thinking that the doctor was wrong to say this, and should I reply for the benefit of other people reading the thread or just keep my big sticky beak out?

depends on the forum

you may get a bad reputation, insulted, flamed and/or banned

but if you;re willing to take the risk...

JollyPirate · 04/12/2008 10:49

If you are willing to take the risk add a link to the Dept of Health weaning advice (or any link showing current recommendations).

I would say something on the lines that while in certain cases medical staff may advise (correctly) early weaning; this does not mean that we should wean before 17-26 weeks without medical supervision and advice.

It isn't toooo fluffy but we're mainly first-time mums so it's a bit of a case of the blind leading the blind.

I've replied saying that I'm hoping to wait the recommended six months and that I'm surprised that a doctor suggested weaning so early ... I got into a bit of a fight on there a few days ago about early weaning, so I may well have a reputation already

yes, i would reply to it. because there are so many people out there who just don;t know why it is important to wait until 6 months or thereabouts.

you';ll get some naive young mum searching the internet for info on weaning. she'll find that thread and think, oooh, well all these women weaned early and it's ok. must be alright.

I always, always challenge things like that. if people are likely to read it, and both sides aren't already there then it needs to be IMO
